Funny Place

Filed under: Thoughts — antitheticalmom @ 5:14 am

It has been a non-stop ranting on work-related topics here in my blog for the past few entries. It doesn’t seem fair to depict that picture just because of one (or maybe two) unpleasant and frustrating aspects of my work.

To counter the venom, I will narrate funny, touching, sweet anecdotes regarding my officemates’ reaction to my pregnancy that made this place the only office I have stayed in for a year non-stop.

For one, I am unmarried and this pregnancy was obviously not planned. Not once did I hear any insulting comment nor pushy questions from any of them for the past six months. The only reaction I got was people genuinely happy and excited about a baby.

Two, my bosses accomodated my schedule. I took a one-week leave, can work from home if I have to, and did my undertime especially during the early parts of my pregnancy.

Three, nobody blabbed about it behind my back. They don’t say a thing when outsiders ask. So they were very discreet.

Four, I always got the first share when there are chocolates, ice cream, pistacchio nuts, and other treats when they are passed around the office.

Five, they keep on giving me suggestions on where to buy materntiy wear.

Six, they were happier than I was when they found out it will be a girl.

Seven, they mentioned that it is common here in the office for some moms to bring their kids at work. I already have two who volunteered to look after the baby part-time when I bring her here.

Eight, they are genuinely concerned about me. They worry when I have a cough. Even drivers or the canteen cashier will tell me if what I am eating is bad for me.

Nine, strangers here in the office feel free to talk to me. I often get free advice in the elevators, canteen line, lunch tables, and so on.

There, people here are generally nice and open and kind. Sometimes, the workload, office pressure get to me. But I try to focus on the good points. And so far, I know that it will not be like this for me anywhere else.
